Wednesday Message 11-1-17
In the name of God? For the glory of God?
The murderous act committed in NYC yesterday was not in the name of God, nor to God’s glory. ISIS attacks are not based in faith, but in an attempt to scare and control. They are political not religious. They are power-seekers, not faith-builders.
God is life-giving, people-loving, diversity-celebrating.
As Christians, we can believe that. It’s what we know of God in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ.
As Christians, we need to live, proclaim, and inspire others to know this about God, until all know God like this.
I’ll not let acts of violence be what defines God. I’ll let Jesus define God. His servant leadership is the model of my life. His call to love God, neighbor, and self is the foundation of my decisions and actions.
Then, ….. in the name of God? For the glory of God?
“Come, Lord Jesus, save us from ourselves and each other.”
Until then, my fellow Christians, people of faith, God-loving people… may every act, word, thought, be peace.
Peace in our journeys,
Pastor Steve Melde
