A brief connection to God’s Spirit in the middle of the week.
Wednesday Message 1-3-18
If you are like most people, three days into the new year you have done one of two things with New Year’s Resolutions. You have either already broken the resolution, or you didn’t bother making one because like most people you have learned that we break our resolutions within the first week of making them anyway.
But I like these moments in our lives. I think they are helpful moments, even in our faith. Setting and achieving goals is important to our growth. If we don’t go through this kind of process from time to time, we tend to get accustomed to our way of doing things, and thought that’s one level of growth, being specific about how you want to be, how you want to live your life, what goals you want to accomplish can take you to a deeper level of living, especially faithfully.
So, I challenge you…. to pick something you are going to work on in your life to improve. Of course, my challenge is about your faith. What are you going to do this year to help your faith grow deeper?
Commit to meditating on one piece of scripture per week.
Resolve to pray in a way that helps you listen to God, rather than speak to God.
Find another(s) to spend time talking about faith issues, maybe even just once a month.
Speak the words to your favorite hymn, and not worry about carrying a tune, just get into the poetic faith of the song writer.
Get a desk top calendar that gives you a scripture a day, or a faith thought a day. (They are probably on sale now!)
You choose. Making a goal, a resolution, challenging yourself to grow in your faith, is the best way to grow in your faith, and to grow your faith! Your faith is a gift from God. How will you nurture it in 2018?
Peace in our journeys,
Pastor Steve Melde
