A brief connection to God’s Spirit in the middle of the week.
Wednesday Message 12-13-17
There’s a great ol’ kids’ song:
“The more we get together
The more we get together
The happier we’ll be.”
Seems lately that we are doing a lot of getting together. That’s what happens in the holiday season. We gather for shopping at the malls (or even on line). We get together for parties, cookie swaps, Women’s Christmas Brunch, putting out lights, trimming the tree. We love getting together for meals and drinks. There are the gingerbread house making contests, and more shopping.
I’m not so sure that all of these gatherings make us a whole lot happier. I see so many people in high stress mode in the holiday season. I know the stressors increase. Changing our routine, making room for all the guests, figuring out who is doing the dishes. And for some people the stress rises because they are alone.
As a pastor, I can’t help but remind you that there is one place where we all need to gather: in worship. It’s in worship that we learn to center ourselves on what God is doing in Jesus the Christ. Immanuel: God-is-with-Us. Hallelujah!!
If you truly want to find happiness, then get your focus on God. With God in Christ at the center of your life, you will find a way to be happy(er) in your other gatherings. It’s the only way!
Oh by the way…. Sorry. I know, now that song is in your head and you won’t be able to get it out! Happy Christmas!
Peace in our journeys,
Pastor Steve Melde
