Personally, I love election time. I feel so privileged to live in the United States where not only can I vote, but my vote makes a difference. I love the process.
Except, for all the ads.
I just can’t stand all the ads… which rarely talk about the candidate who sponsors them, but most of the time sling mud against the opponent.
But I guess that’s what works. Sad… isn’t it? And why does it work? Well, you could figure out all the psychological reasons, or even the social ones, but there’s one main reason it’s true: We let it be true!
Yes, you and I are the ones responsible for those ads because they work…. on us… on us voters.
So, I’m thinking…. maybe one way to get rid of the ads is to not let them work… on me. So, I turn them off, and I go online to the candidate’s website and read about them and what they want to do. And I’ve even let a candidate know that negative ads will cause me to vote for someone else.
I know, my one little voice won’t change the world… will it?
Peace in our journeys,
